Why I "Party" With my 4 Year Old Before School

Why I "Party" With my 4 Year Old Before School

This post is sponsored by General Mills, but all opinions are my own.

This year I have been looking to find ways to bring more excitement and positive moments of connection into my girls lives. I used to save special treats until the end of the day as a reward for good behavior but recently I started to wonder, if I dished out the fun in the morning, if it might set the tone for our day.

I know these positive interactions go a long way in my relationship with my girls so I wanted to see what would happen. I started to notice that when Ayla and I start our day out on a really positive, happy note the whole days truly seems to be better. When the first thing I do with her in the morning is to play and have fun connecting she seems to be in a better mood and even follows directions and listens better!

I remember how special it was to pick out my own “fun” cereal as a kid. Walmart has a few fun, new General Mills cereals out like Hershey’s Kisses Cereal, Jolly Rancher Cereal and Trix™ Trolls with Marshmallows Cereal. I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to kick start our day with a little excitement. We recently started getting up a few minutes early to have “breakfast parties”. Ayla will excitedly run down the steps to decide which of her stuffed friends will be invited to that mornings party. We gather a few colorful bowls, spread out a “picnic blanket” on the floor and get all of the little friends seated. Ayla takes all of her little friend’s cereal orders and I make sure every party attendee has enough cereal in their bowl.  I think Ayla’s favorite part of the party is that she gets to eat everyone’s cereal (meaning she gets a little of every flavor which is obviously so much more fun than committing to just one!).

Needless to say, as of late, our mornings have been a lot more fun. It’s been hard to pick a favorite cereal around here but I usually go between the Hershey’s Kisses Cereal and Jolly Rancher Cereal.  Ayla tends to enjoy the little marshmallows in the Trix Trolls™ Cereal, because marshmallows are hard to beat when your 4! You can easily find all three new cereal varieties at your local Walmart. I hope you enjoy introducing a little extra fun into your morning routine with this new breakfast gems!
