My Pregnancy Safe Skincare Routine

My Pregnancy Safe Skincare Routine

I recently posted on the make up I have been using during pregnancy and thought I would follow up with my pregnancy safe skincare routine. Finding great products that really work and are safe for baby can be a bit of a challenge but I have been really happy with the products I am currently using in my daily routine. I have tried a number of natural or organic brands over the years and these are the products that land at the top of my list.

Tatcha Water Cream Review

Face Wash: I have been using Juice Beauty’s STEM CELLULAR Cleansing Oil and have been loving it! It does a fantastic job with removing my make up while not striping my skin. I think with all the crazy hormones during pregnancy my skin tends to be a little more dry so it’s really been amazing to find a face wash that is really gentle on my skin and non-drying. A lot of the other non-toxic face washes I have used have done a poor job of removing makeup. This one really gets everything off but I will say the oil can stick to your skin a bit if you don’t use really warm water and rinse a few times. I don’t mind this because I feel like it really pulls all the dirt and makeup off my face but I did want to mention it because I could see some people wanting a product that rinses off a bit easier. I personally find the extra rinse worth it for the great clean but it’s definitely something to consider when making a purchase!

Toner: I always use a toner. I find it incredibly refreshing and it’s great for your pores! For the longest time it just wasn’t in my skincare routine and maybe two years ago I started using one. Now it’s a step I never skip. I LOVE the scent of the Dr. Hauschka Facial Toner I have been using. It’s such a fresh and peaceful smell and it leaves my skin moisturized and glowing!

Exfoliators: I follow my face wash with Tatcha’s The Rice Polish Classic foaming enzyme powder. It’s such a gentle exfoliator that you can really use it every day if you’d like. I tend to exfoliate every other day but it just depends on your skin and preference. I also use Juice Beauty’s STEM CELLULAR Exfoliating Peel Spray on my neck and chest. I recently realized that I had been neglecting this area and unfortunately sun damage over the years has finally starting to catch up with me. Dark spots and wrinkles are becoming a bit more noticeable. I love this spray because it’s so easy to use on your neck and décolleté where a regular exfoliator might be too harsh for that kind of delicate skin. You just spray it on and allow it to absorb a few seconds. You can use your hands or a washcloth to exfoliate in a circular motion and then rinse (I use a wet washcloth to rinse it off and it’s super simple). I will say that it has a bit of a strong smell to it. When I was feeling nauseous I had to pass on this product but now that I’m feeling better I have actually started to enjoy the scent. Just fair warning for those of you with sensitive noses during pregnancy!

Morning moisturizer: I have been using Tatcha’s Water Cream in the mornings because it absorbs so nicely and makes a great base for my make up. I really love the texture of water creams and they just hydrate so well. It’s an amazing moisturizer for the winter when skin could use a bit of extra TLC. I have loved Tatcha for some time now. They are a brand that is really conscious about what they use in their products but that never compromises the quality of the products they produce. Also, if your like me and are a sucker for a beautifully packaged product they will not disappoint. They have some of my all time favorite skin care packaging and their products look so pretty on a sink or vanity.

Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Oil Review

Face oil: Drunk Elephant has been one of my favorite brands for quite a while and their Virgin Marula Luxury Face Oil is probably my favorite product of all. A lot of oils leave my skin feeling, well, oily. That is definitely not the case with this product. This oil absorbs into your skin incredibly well so it doesn’t leave behind a greasy feel. It’s also super high in antioxidants and omega 6 & 9. I even put a drop or two on my belly sometimes when it’s feeling a little tight or dry! It’s hands down my favorite face oil.

Indee Lee I-Waken Eye Serum Review

Eye cream: It’s not secret that sleep doesn’t come easy during pregnancy so I have been using Indee Lee’s I-waken eye serum. I have been using this under my eyes every morning and it really helps to brighten and wake up my dark puffy eyes (it really targets dark circles and puffiness). It’s also packed with great antioxidants that protect and smooth your skin. I have been really happy with the results so far and definitely recommend it if your looking for an eye serum.

Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Review

Evening moisturizer: Normally I use a retinol cream at night but retinol is a big no-no in pregnancy (If your pregnant and using anything with Retinol in it you should stop immediately as some study’s show it’s been linked with birth defects). I have been using Juice Beauty’s STEM CELLULAR Anti-Wrinkle Moisturizer at night (even though it’s not an actual “night cream”) and I really love it. It feels so hydrating and has great anti-aging properties that fight fine lines and wrinkles.

Josie Maran Argan Sugar Scrub and Whipped Argan Oil

Body scrub: Josie Maran’s Argan Sugar Balm, over the course of this pregnancy has become my absolute favorite body scrub. It’s super effective at exfoliating, leaves my skin incredibly smooth and it’s not too harsh like I find many body scrubs to be. It smells like a box of Funfetti cake and the only disappointing thing about this product is that it can’t bake me a cupcake with each use.

Body lotion: I always follow up exfoliating with my Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil body lotion. It smells just as good as the body scrub and is so moisturizing. I use this for everything from dry hands to an all over body moisturizer. It’s amazing to use on my tight itchy 9 month pregnant belly as well. I have really just been using this (no special belly balms) and it’s doing a great job because I have no stretch marks yet!

I hope this review was helpful for you and please always feel free to reach out with additional questions!

xo,

Kelly
