Hi. I'm Kelly.

How I Designed My Own Shoes (and How You Can Too!)

How I Designed My Own Shoes (and How You Can Too!)

I would just like to thank Shoes of Prey for sponsoring this post and giving me the amazing opportunity to design my own shoes. I grew up before iPad’s were a thing and I remember having a kit that came with Barbie outlines and outfit stencils. You could trace different pieces of clothing onto her and decorate them however you wanted. I was 8 or 9 and already loved playing fashion designer. Sadly it has not been until now that I have been able to actually design a piece of clothing that I actually get to wear.

Designing sneakers with Shoes of Prey was a dream come true! It was incredibly easy and so much fun.  When you go to their site you can choose from so many kinds of shoes. They have everything from fancy heels, to boots, to casual sneakers. You can choose the base style you would like and from there you can start to play with all of the different fabrics and materials they have to choose from. They have silk, velvet, leather, wool. I mean if you can dream it up you can make it. I decided to go with a pair of street style ready sneakers. As I sat down at my computer to get started I kept thinking “If I were a pair of sneakers, what would I be?”

I decided to start with pink velvet. From there I wanted to add a more edgy texture to really draw out the softness of the shoe but also give it a bit of contrast. I decided to go with a light pink leather to mix in around the edges of the shoe. I chose gold hardware and a baby blue leather insole. I was also able to inscribe the shoe to truly make it my own. I had it inscribed with @KellyTowart’s Kicks. You can really be as creative with the inscription as you’d like. Once I was finished I stared at the rendering of what my sneakers would be and could not wait to see if they looked as great in real life.

I will be honest, I was nervous that I would get them and the quality wouldn’t be great or they would look terrible in real life. I was floored when I received them less than two weeks later. The box they came in felt so high end. When I opened the box they were beautifully wrapped in tissue paper. On top sat a dust bag AND they even had heel grips and toe cushions in case I wanted to add them for additional comfort (not that I need them). The shoes themselves were beautiful. They were amazing quality and way prettier in real life than on the computer generated model on my screen. It was official. I was in love. If I were a sneaker this was most definitely what I would be.

I can not recommend these shoes more highly to you. I think one of my favorite things about this site is that it takes all of the pain out of finding the perfect shoe. If you need a specific heel height or your looking for the exact blush or nude to match you skin this site makes it easy.  If you need a specific style, color or material to go with a special dress for an event this is perfect.  You could even find the perfect bridesmaid shoes and have your bridesmaids names engraved into each one!  You can build exactly what you need right from your computer and you don’t have to spend days on end scouring every site and walking through every store in the mall only to lead disappointed.  This saves so much time, is WAY more fun and leaves you with a product that is truly your own. So if you need a specific shoe or you just want to play and design the shoes of your dreams then make sure you check them out!  You wont be disappointed!
