3 Easy Ways to Give Your Bedroom a Facelift
Ok so I am no Martha Stewart. While I love fashion, for some reason when it comes to decorating, cooking and other "Pinterest" type things my abilities fall so far short of where I would like them to be. I often read other blogs and look at these mommy blogger’s homes and think "how on earth do they accomplish these things with kids?" Maybe it's because I'm not naturally gifted in decorating that it feels so overwhelming. Whatever the reason, I am working on growing in this area because I place such a high value on my environment and feel so much happier in a beautiful space.
That before picture of our room is just pretty sad. So why have I not worked on decorating the bedroom until now you may be wondering? Well we moved in to our house two weeks before I had Ayla so needless to say decorating was about a negative 10 on my overly pregnant list of things that urgently needed to get done. We have finally made some good strides with the downstairs but our bedroom has been the very last room to get decorated. Almost two years after buying our house we decided that its finally time. We had a pretty small budget so I needed a little to go a long way. I was able to make a few simple changes that really made a huge difference so I wanted to share them with you guys here. Here are a few quick and easy ideas that will add a ton of new life to your room and shouldn’t put too much of a strain on your budget.
1. New bedding- Guys, this is so simple but I can not tell you the difference it makes! We have had the same sheets since getting married almost 7 yrs ago. You don’t need elaborate decorations when you have beautiful bedding. The bed is the biggest piece of furniture in your room so why not turn it into the artistic focal point by introducing beautiful throws, sheets and pillows. We bought a cheap comforter from Ikea and then ordered this incredible collection of bedding from Brooklinnen. I am officially obsessed with this company. These sheets are unbelievably comfortable! They are minimal and yet so well designed. I really highly recommend them if your bed is needing a bit of a facelift. They will make you so happy every time you crawl into bed. I promise!
2. Add some green- It is amazing how much the little plant on the bedside table and the standing plant add to the room. It brings so much life and a much needed pop of color. If your room doesn’t get a lot of direct light (like ours) you can easily opt for fake plants like these. I love real plants but I sadly don’t have the greatest track record with keeping them alive so if you’re the type with a green thumb then by all means go for the real thing!
3. Unique wall hangings- One or two unique pieces of art on your wall will add so much character to a room. When I found KESKOS handmade terrariums I just absolutely fell in love. They are so affordable. I’m serious, don’t even think about going to a place like Terrain for one. This is so much better AND half the price. If you can combine a really great piece of art with a tiny pop of green then it’s kind of a double win. This terrarium comes with everything you need to get set up. The sand and the adorable little cactus’s are included. I love my new pet cacti and can actually keep them alive because they are so low maintenance. I think all we really need to do now is name them. Yes, I always name my plants. I think it somehow gives them a better chance of surviving my apparent plant killing skill. If you have any suggestions on names you can feel free to send them my way 😉.
